Deep down, even his most ardent supporters know it. So why should we continue to deny it?
So the guy was the son of a mill worker, who gives a shit? My mother immigrated to America from Egypt with NOTHING. I mean NOTHING, ZERO DOLLARS. Personifying the true American Spirit, she became has become a highly successful physician who sits on the American College of Rheumatology.
Has she abandoned her roots and forgotten her struggle? Of course not. (She's an ardent Hillary backer, ftr) But that doesn't mean she resorts to this pathetic self aggrandizing to promote herself.
The guy talks about attacking corporate greed, with passionate populist rhetoric reminiscent of William Jennings Bryan.
Yet, he didn't even support Universal Health Care in 2004, even though many Democrats, even "DLC type," (like Hillary Clinton and even Joementum) did. He also bragged about his appeal to Republicans in 2004, emphasizing his Southern Baptist roots for his "uneasiness," towards Civil Unions for GLBT couples, as well as his "yay," vote for the Patriot Act and Iraq War.
Johnny made his fortune as an ambulance chaser, bankrupting physicians like my mother on the most frivolous of lawsuits. He even made millions suing the American Red Cross on behalf of an ultra-conservative media outlet in North Carolina.
The haircut stuff matters, too. As does the $6 million mansion. Why? Because that is money spent in a vain, boorish, and frankly, greedy way. There's nothing wrong a progressive being successful or enjoying the fruits of his labor, but our leaders need to set a better example than did Edwards. If he wants to be a populist, he should try to live a lifestyle that makes him look more like a normal Joe than Paris Hilton.
In other words indulgence is fine, but gluttony is not. He has the right to spend his money as he wants, and we also have the right to call him out on his hypocrisy.
And, I have four words regarding Edwards’ populist appeal: Give me a break. Did you know that he invested $16 million dollars in a hedge fund that foreclosed numerous New Orleans home owners trying to make ends meet after Katrina?
Oh yeah, but Johnny claims that this was a "learning experience," to "combat poverty." Riiightt. However even this cheap cop-out lacks credibility as he fails to explain why he pocketed the multi-million dollar profits of his lucrative hedge fund investments rather than using it to help the poor. Talk about corporate greed, eh?
So my point is, I'm sick of the ridiculous fawning over this fraud. I'm sick of kossacks dubbing him "JRE," as if the rest of us are somehow obligated to memorize the initials of "his eminence."
And most of all, I'm sick of the discussion on this forum being so heavily focused on a failed politician with no impact on this race. I mean seriously, did anyone see the New Hampshire and Nevada results? The guy is about as viable as Mike Gravel.
So end the vanity run Johnny. It's time to focus on the relevant candidates.
EDIT I obviously expect all of the attacks and
"troll," labels from all of Edwards overzealous supporters, but please try to specifically attack the content of this post rather than simply dismiss it as "BS"
