After reading Kos' trip down memory lane, I decided to take a detour. He mentioned that he ran the Hispanic/Latino News Service in the late 90s, so I did a search, dredged up the URL, and popped it into The Wayback Machine. Success!
The index is far from complete, but it's a fun read. The first available entry, from Dec. 6, 1998 (actual time of posting: Dec. 3), starts:
It is 5:09 a.m. Friday morning as I write this, and I have just spent the entire night finishing up my certification paper, which is the law school equivalent of a dissertation. Thus, in order to preserve my sanity, I have decided to skip today's update, since I still have several hours of work ahead of me. Thanks for your understanding.
The last available entry in its form as HLNS, from June 9, 2000, reads:
Look for the relaunch of the Hispanic Latino News Service in May 2000.
The next available entry is for "Adult Links." The site is now a generic page of paid search and links.
Reading through the old news and seeing Kos' writing style back then is kind of fun. And Kos apparently always liked orange. In addition to the orange iMac he wanted, his site had a vaguely familiar tinge to it, too.
