I saw a program on the stage that claimed it was a primary debate, but I fear I saw much much more. I see now why Edwards supporters love him for his passion and deeply personal way of communicating causes, but why also others claim he is a charlatan. I can see now why Hillary haters loathe her with every fiber of their being and claim they will vote for McCain over her. I also see why her supporters are so loyal that they will fight with her until the end. I saw the lofty messages of hope of unity shake, as the candidate espousing them became sharp and testy, but I can get why he feels that way.
I however loathe the fact that this primary debate has been the ugliest, most divisive one that I have seen and more than one person is to blame for all this. All three are to lesser or greater degree. I suddenly woke up this morning and realized I hate one of them. But I'd be damned if I let that personal dislike be the subject of my diary.
So I think of less divisive things. Let me concentrate on the divide that does matter and amuse myself with debates that will actually entertain me, and help me root for the democratic candidate no matter what. Debates between Democrats and Republicans. It leads to less conflict, less...pain. Here are the three scenarios I'd love to see. Note, that who ever your candidate, they may get a bit lampooned. However, all three do, so no pinning the favoritism tag on me.
TOP THREE DEBATES I'D LIKE TO SEE
- Huckabee vs. Hillary: This is a man who has a lot of people fooled by his reasonable Christian act. He is a fundie nut job. Who else to counter his sentiments than a woman who represents everything he hates? She is about 50 gazillion IQ points smarter than he is, she is pro-choice, she can mop the floor with him. I will bet 60 dollars that he will say a lot of unchristian things, and eventually have his head assplode at the end of it.
- Romney vs. Edwards: The mindless, cold automaton vs the knight in shining armor. The selfish intellectual over the smart and passionate fighter for the people. This is Joseph Campbell mythology at its most vivid. You could actually play Star Wars music.
- McCain Vs. Obama: Fear politics vs a hopeful vision for the future- here are two guys with SERIOUS independent appeal. However one relies on his past, and another relies on his future. This is exactly the sort of agenda that Obama has stood against. I hope I see this once before I die. Just once.
THE DEBATES I'D HATE TO SEE.
- Romney Vs. Hillary: The negative ads leading up to these DEBATES itself will cause most viewers to kill themselves. Both candidates just IMO fight that way. Around someone who will wish to prove that he too is an economics heavy weight, why it will be like Macroeconomics class all over again. My stimulation package is bigger than yours. Yes, but it is not the size of your package but what you do with it. Sovereign wealth funds. Blah.
- Huck vs. Obama: There will be Christianity oozing out of every sentence as Barack has to make the point that despite his middle name, and those nasty emails, he is not and has never been a Muslim. And that too in front of a Preacher man! Oh Lord.
I am a committed Christian!
Yeah? Well, I pray every day.
LOOK! I am bleeding from my wrists which is obviously Stigmata. I love him more!
At the end of it, I will feel compelled to accept Jesus as my savior, and I really don't wish to do that.
- McCain Vs. Edwards:
I know the polls say Edwards can defeat McCain. I just think that McCain does not provide Edwards the strongest contrast with which he can shine in a personal sense. This will be too much niceness. Edwards is a fighter, but he is also very personable. McCain is a crazy, dangerous nutbag, but he also comes across in a very grand pa like way. This will bore me to tears. No thank you.
Tell me your choices. Remember, we know that when it comes to issues all our candidates have the superior ground. I am concentrating on softer variables like personality.
