i'll keep this short and sweet. hillary clinton is not my first choice for president of the current crop of candidates, but if she is the nominee, i will support her.
with that out of the way, i just wanted to point something interesting out.
for how much should the clinton home here in DC be assessed?
i'm starting to house hunt here in the district. poking around on the DC citizen atlas real property website is pretty fun. you can see what anyone's house is assessed for here in the city. i found the clinton house ages ago, and for whatever reason, i wanted to see how much it was considered to be worth.
here's what i found:
year land value 'improvement' value total assessment
2008 $2,254,730 $2,707,080 $4,961,810
2007 $1,466,850 $3,489,090 $4,955,940
2006 $1,189,050 $3,535,210 $4,724,260
now, i know that in some places outside of the DC area (even nearby, in prince william county, VA, for example) house prices have fell quite a bit in the last year. but how did the clintons' house lose almost $800,000 in value this year? prices in DC might be leveling off in some parts of town, but i know the prices aren't tanking like that. according to the available records, their house has lost value each of the last two years (though the land it sits on, next door to dick cheney, is becoming more valuable).
any real estate experts out there who care to tackle this one?
