I'm really, really, really getting tired of having to write these kinds of letters to Claire McCaskill. I had so much hope when she defeated Jim Talent, but more times than not, it seems when it really matters, her votes aren't that different than his.
I know that all those other times that she votes differently than what Talent would have I should feel good, but on some of these big ones, she sure messes up.
My letter below the fold.
re: FISA vote
Senator McCaskill,
I suppose at some point I'm just going to have to realize that you and I aren't going to see eye to eye very often. Too say that I was shocked to read where you voted with Mitch McConnell on the FISA bill earlier today would be an understatement. I'm literally floored that you would vote with President Bush to grant telecom companies immunity from breaking the law while spying on the good citizens of your own state.
It took me a long time to get over the fact that you challenged an incumbent Democratic Governor whom I happened to like. I was apprehensive when you ran for Senate. I despised Jim Talent and I really wanted to like you. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised when you became Senator. Well, to date I'd have to say that many of your votes have left me very disappointed.
I hope when it comes time for you to support Senator Dodd's filibuster of this incredibly bad bill, you will do what is right for the citizens of Missouri and all the citizens of the United States.
Sincerely,
docstymie
