I'm tired of these candidate wars. So, so, so, so tired.
And what I'm really tired of?
Tying "education level" to exit poll data.
Stop it.
Stop it, stop it, stop it.
My grandmother is 80 years old, and is a Hillary supporter. And I'm sure many of you would be quick to gloat with glee and decry her as an "old voter" who supports Clinton.
She also only has a high school education to her name.
She was born on a farm, without doctors, in rural Michigan. When her father (my great grandfather died), she helped her mother tend to the farms.
There were two farms. My great grandmother lost one in the Great Depression, but she, my grandmother, and her siblings (one sister, one brother) kept the farm going.
My grandmother goes to Church every day. The Catholic church she and my grandfather helped build. My maternal family has a stained glass window in this church. It's inner city. The church is now heavily Latino, and we will cite our "Padre Nuestro" during mid-day weekday masses, and the Guadalupe is ever-present.
And my Grandmother also supports a woman's right to choose. She supports civil unions. She believes another Depression is coming, and she also believes that higher education degree is not a panacea for low wages in this nation.
My grandmother has nary but a high school degree.
And she raised 7 children, 6 of which are vociferous blue-collar urban Dems. My mother is a feminist, and a liberal.
My grandmother, my aunt, and my mother support Hillary Clinton. But -- more importantly -- they support The Democratic Party. They all live in a swing state, they all have had careers. They have all been married. They have all had children.
My mother did not have a college degree until 2001.
And yet, all I see is this bullshit parsing of demographics. The educated support Obama. The uneducated break to Hillary. The ones with sensibility are for Obama, and those dazzled by celebrity care for Clinton.
For the love of God, stop it.
When you are 80 years old, as my grandmother is, and are phonebanking for your municipal mayoral election, you don't need this shit. There are people working for principles, and who come from all walks of life, all education levels, all perspectives.
And it disgusts me to see this neglected, homogenized, and tarnished on DailyKos on a daily basis.
For the love of God, there are other vociferous Dems out there and they may disagree with your preferred candidate.
But please stop attacking their character, their intellect, and their ability just because of some bullshit exit poll statistic.
Point to this diary? There is none. But I needed to get this shit off my chest. There are more people out there than us young, liberal arts degree, post-Baby Boom voters.
Understand.
