Religious leaders from many faiths have joined together in releasing a strong condemnation of our nations brutal failed War on Drugs. I would normally say what took them so long but I applaud their action because we need their help in a very bad way. I'm not a very Religious person so obviously I've always been a firm believer in the total separation of Religion and State. Yet under the current conditions when the state rejects science by legislating morality perhaps a divine intervention by religious leaders is the only way out of this drug war nightmare that is destroying this nation from within. When you remove the whole moral and religious basis for the drug war then in the end we will have fewer laws governing personal behavior. If religious leaders are the only group that can successfully purge the fanatics and moralists out the drug war then that's a good thing.
Reverend Scott Richardson an Episcopal priest in San Diego & he lays it right on the line. He says we are responsible for this. The clergy, we got behind this war on drugs without thinking about it. We were motivated by Puritanism and the perfection of mankind and this idea of fighting a war on drugs appealed to a lot of people and, you know, we got to do something about this and so, he said, the clergy, that’s why he said, we clergy members must do something about this because we are responsible for it.
The War On Drugs is a Bi-Partisan Failure but GOP is the driving force behind it that makes it politically impossible to have a common sense approach using science and medicine instead of prisons to deal with drug addiction. When you have profit driven GOP operatives like Calvina Fay invoking the 10 Commandments in regards to pissing in cup any chance for a reasonable discussion has been eradicated. By the way Miss Fay was founder , President , and owner of Forward Edge one of the first firms providing drug testing services. Urine literally made this wicked right wing skank a Multi millionaire many times over. The piss industry has become a 4 billion dollar a year mega business. When the piss profiteers die I hope their version of hell is repeatedly drowning in drug tainted boiling vats of urine for all eternity.
The Ten Commandments of Drug Testing
March 1, 1989
Calvina L. Fay
IMPLEMENTING A DRUG testing program may cast an employer in the role of corporate bully. Even when the intentions are to improve the work environment. The following commandments are designed to achieve drug testing goals.
I. Thou shalt have a written drug testing policy.
II. Thou shalt base the reasons for testing on a sound business necessity. Safety, loss prevention, productivity, and public reputation requirements are sound business necessities.
III. Thou shalt inform employees and applicants of the policy and the consequences of refusal to participate.
IV. Thou shalt administer testing with consistency.
V. Thou shalt obtain written consent each time testing is conducted.
VI. Thou shalt collect, transport, and document specimens using the highest legal standards.
VII. Thou shalt use analytical techniques that provide for confirmation of all positives.
VIII. Thou shalt give every employee who tests positive an opportunity for review.
IX. Thou shalt take great care in protecting the confidentiality of test results to avoid potential lawsuits.
X. Thou shalt give advice to employees in need of treatment for drug-induced problems. A testing program may cause some employees with drug problems to come forward voluntarily prior to testing in hopes of protecting their jobs.
The workplace drug problem is serious and widespread. Management can no longer look the other way. Many companies that have decided to meet the problem head-on are choosing drug testing programs to identify drug abusers on their payrolls.
The Democratic party leadership should immediately break away from it's disastrous drug war alliance with GOP. The War on Terror will never end unless it's funding is removed. The War on Drugs has not only failed miserably but has cost us millions of voters most of whom are inner city African Americans a key voting block in our party. The numbers of African American men that have been disenfranchised through means of felony drug convictions is staggering to say the least.
Mandatory minimum Drug sentences unfair to blacks, report finds
THE CAPITAL
February 27, 2007
Annapolis, Maryland (AP)
Maryland's mandatory sentences for repeat drug offenders disproportionately imprison blacks and don't necessarily deter crime, according to a report from the Justice Policy Institute report, scheduled for release today, was attacked by the Drug Free America Foundation Inc. As a misleading document intended to bolster support for drug decriminalization.
Mr. Ziedenberg denied that the Justice Institute aims to decriminalize drugs, as alleged by Drug Free America Executive Director Calvina Fay, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Ms. Fay said mandatory minimums should be reviewed and adjusted as needed, but that long prison terms are an effective crime deterrent. She said the disproportionate number of blacks imprisoned for drug crimes reflects the inability of poor defendants to afford sophisticated defense lawyers, not a flaw in the sentencing laws.
