I am still for Edwards. I prefer his rhetoric and attitude about what's to come in the general and in changing the country. Please don't use this diary to try to persuade me onto the Obama bandwagon. I'm strapped in and happy where I am, at least unless my candidate leaves the race. If y'all can dream and hope, so can I.
Nonetheless, I like to share news that will make people happy, and as mad as I get at some of the Obama supporters (and other candidate supporters, for that matter), some of you are quite nice and will enjoy this. :)
So, a "real-life voter" story my mom shared with me follows.
My mom and her neighbor are very close but have pretty much been unable to discuss politics since I challenged my mom to look into the real activities of the Bush administration and the GOP in general five years ago. Needless to say, Mom didn't like what she found, but the neighbor -- despite being pro-choice and more anti-corporate than I (she wants to put an actual federal legislative cap on CEO salaries and corporate profits, which is way further than I would go), still thinks Bush is a great guy, watches Fox, firmly believes there is a war on Christians and votes Republican on a regular basis.
Mom is a huge Obama fan, and she has some photos of him in her bookcase. The neighbor apparently stopped by earlier today, looked over at the photos and said, "Now, that young man is really something, and he's well on his way to being president of the United States. We could talk about politics again."
They apparently followed up with some discussion of how inspirational the Kennedy endorsements were and laughing about how Obama's supporters tend to be wealthy and young and they apparently are young and wealthy at heart if not in practice.
So, a little bit of happy for the unity folks. We mightn't agree, but I'll be more than pleased if you're right.
