This is a call to arms for Al Gore.
John McCain will be the Republican nominee, barring utter disaster. He will go on to the November election with a ton of Reagan democrats at least considering to vote for him, based on the perceptions of his integrity, moderation and war record.
The one obstacle for McCain is the conservative base, who will not turn out for him...unless Clinton is the nominee. A Hillary nomination, paired with McCain naming Huckabee as his VP, will energize the conservative base. I truly believe Hillary loses - and loses big - to McCain. And McCain has already hinted at more wars and a thousand years of occupation in Iraq.
Hillary Clinton, for her part, has divided this party, most specifically by siccing her attack dog Bill on Obama and his race. The party is self-immolating and is rapidly pissing away the natural advantages it has going into this election. I know the Hillary supporters are passionate and I'm not knocking them or their efforts. There are obviously strong reasons to support Sen. Clinton, or she wouldn't have so many supporters.
It is my belief that Hillary cannot unify this party or this country. Barack Obama can. But he faces disadvantages going into Super Tuesday. There are whispers out there that Al Gore is waiting until after Super Tuesday to endorse. For the good of our party and this country, he cannot wait any longer. If he intends to endorse Obama, he must do so now.
