In wake of the Edwards drop-out, does he now become a leading candidate for a VP slot? Would that be part of the "talk" we hear about between the two campaigns?
More below the fold.
OK, the field has been narrowed and now Dems have a clear either-or choice. John Edwards has run an incredible campaign, especially when you consider the ratio by which he was outraised and outspent.
But, the $64 question is -- would Edwards barter his support to Obama (virtually assuring an Obama victory) for another VP slot (or other position in an Obama administration)? There is certainly an idealogical connect between the two with respect to returning government to the people and diminishing lobbyist influence on decisions in Washington.
If Edwards doesn't make a deal w/Obama, who else would be on the VP short-list? There's an argument to be made for each of the folks in the following poll.
Most of the guys on the list have obvious cabinet slots they could fill. My personal preference, completely in-line with Obama's message of change: Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark). Southern woman with solid centrist credentials, well-respected on both sides of the aisle. My second choice would be Biden, whose experience helps to balance out a ticket against McCain.
An argument can also be made for Richardson. However, I could see him more making a VP deal with Hillary to shore up the Latino vote (counteracting the Kennedy endorsement).
