I'm sorry, everyone, but I just saw something that made me smile. Not so much smile as chuckle. Well, maybe laugh. Out loud, even. Cackle. Uncontrollably. You see where I'm going here.
[Update] For God's sake people! Okay, if you must know, it was a comic in last week's New Yorker. I'll see if I can find you a link. Basically some guy is sitting in his visibly very cold house in a sweater and stocking cap and lecturing his shivering children for having "exchanged those sensible Christmas sweaters for the fleeting amusement of toys." Commentary on high energy prices. Very funny. I guess you'd have to see it...
I won't go into the details of what I found so funny, the source of my jubilation as it were. Now I wouldn't say I rolled on the floor laughing, but I haven't had quite as good a laugh in some time, which is saying something, as I would almost call myself jolly, if my build were so robust as to support the connotation of the word.
On a somewhat unrelated note, however, I want to offer my condolences to those on this website who have worked hard to keep the Recommended diary list so full of Edwards advocacy these past months. You've all fought the good fight, or at least a good fight, and while the cause may have come up short, I still think you're winners. Even if your leadership wasn't quite able to convert your dedication and tireless effort into political victories, the campaign as a whole did push some important issues into the national spotlight, which is a kind of victory in its own right.
Well, not a victory exactly, but certainly a fine consolation.
Now, surely some people will be feeling dejected, not having the opportunity to even vote for the man on whose account so much virtual ink has been spilled. I say to them: Buck up! No need to feel gloomy. I suspect John Edwards has a bright future ahead of him and so do each of you. There is a fine candidate you might turn to now. My recommendation is that you work for the Obama campaign. It's the bee's knees. Fine college ladies all over the damn place. For those of you in middle age, it'll make you feel young again in a way Pepsi never could.
The truth is, Edwards people, at least around here, have always been more or less on the right side of things. Sure, they may have taken a few of the bits of netroots common wisdom that float around dKos a little too seriously, but their hearts were in the right place. That's what counts.
