I have been reading this site for maybe two years now. Not as long as many of you, but long enough. I don't always agree with everything posted (of course), but this site has gone crazy in the past month or so. I can't take it anymore. It's silly and it's ruining this site for readers like me (not that you care).
I am so sick of reading all the diaries about how great this candidate is and how the other candidate is pure evil. And god forbid if anyone disagrees. What happened to civil debates, or being willing to concede that not everyone is perfect (really, it's true-especially politicians!).
And yes, I am a Hillary supporter. Do you want to know why or would you rather just attack me outright?
I have been ambivalent about the candidates for a while. I leaned Edwards for quite some time, but wasn't convinced. I am a lesbian, which colors my view of candidates. Sadly, for me, none of them are great on this issue. But what turned me to Hillary was the words versus actions that I have seen with Obama over and over.
The gay issue is an easy illustration. He let a horribly anti-gay singer/minister (McKurkle-sp?) or whatever he is to spout his hatred at an Obama fundraiser. Obama gave a half-assed apology, but not really. That kind of stuff is a big deal. You can tell me over and over that he's great for gays, and argue semantics. But you know what? Obama could have easily canceled that guy when he heard from gay rights groups about him and he DIDN'T.
And he talked about it and nodded his head gravely and said oh, I support gay rights. Really? Actions speak louder than words, buddy. And he gave a nice speech on MLK day that included some nice words about gays and lesbians. But guess what? Words again. I can't afford to pick a candidate who speaks nice things, but then allows some guy to spout anti-gay rhetoric at the candidate's own event. It doesn't work for me. I have to worry about what happens to me if my partner dies before I do. I have to worry about the taxes I'll have to pay on her retirement accounts. If I can afford to live on my own social security cause I'm not getting hers.
So that is why I turned to Hillary. I don't agree with her on everything by any means, but at least I agree with her on enough of them. And she isn't out there spouting nice words, but showing something different by her actions. I like her health care plan, her experience, her record of votes (which, by the way, aren't all that different from Obama).
And you know what else? Stop whining every time Obama is "attacked". If you don't think the Republicans are going to dig up everything they can about him, his relationship with corrupt Chicago powerbrokers, and more, then you're delusional.
I will be mildly disappointed if Obama makes it, but will be relatively happy with our candidate. But good god people, get a grip and realize he is as human as Hillary and has made plenty of mistakes. And oh yeah, he's not some sort of savior.
And please save daily kos. I used to really love coming here, but it's getting so bad around here that I don't think I'll be sticking around much longer.
Let's have civil debates and support each other's choices.
