Those of us who support senator Edwards will be stil standing For him in our caucus in Idaho next tuesday. Please join us
Even though John Edwards has officially suspended his campaign for President, Idahoans For Edwards encourages his Idaho supporters to "Cast a Vote of Respect and Appreciation for John Edwards" on the first Idaho caucus ballot on February 5.
A past Idaho Democratic Party Chair explains
"We do not presume to tell any Edwards supporters what position they should ultimately take in their caucus," said Idahoans For Edwards co-chair Bill Mauk. "John Edwards has not endorsed either of the remaining candidates. And, we trust, each of his Idaho supporters will ultimately vote their conscience when the final caucus votes are cast."
Senator Edwards choice of words (e.g. that he is "suspending" his campaign) sends a clear message that his efforts to promote the agenda for economic justice and One America have not come to an end. But, just as clearly, he will not be actively seeking delegates on Super Tuesday. Senator Edwards has been the conscience of this year’s campaign and has supported forcefully many of the ideals that we hold as Democrats. In addition to expressing gratitude to John Edwards, a first ballot vote lets other Democrats and Idahoans know that the message of the Edwards’ campaign will continue to be part of the national political dialogue.
Why would you do this? because you can cast aballot or stand for your candidate and still vote for one of the remaining candidates
The Idaho Democratic Delegate Plan requires a re-caucus after the first ballot and an opportunity for any participant to change to another candidate (or to uncommitted) before the final tally is taken. If Senator Edwards remains viable even with a suspended campaign his supporters can get elected as delegates should they choose to stay with their initial vote. However, Idahoans For Edwards believes all Edwards supporters should choose their own path for their final vote in light of the suspended campaign.
Im proud to be a John Edwards Democrat and stand for the values of economic justice and human compassion he stands for.
