Unlike many Americans, I vote in my own self-interest. At 24, though, I am less concerned with my economic well-being than with my level of sexual satisfaction. And to this I vote accordingly.
Which is why I must throw my support behind Obama. From what I remember of high school history lessons and without bothering to check Wikipedia, I can say for certain that when liberal presidents are in office the sexual attitudes of Americans liberalizes as well. JFK in the 60's led to free love. Carter? The orgy/coke decade. And we all know what happened with Reagan; Just Say No.
But now our country is poised to elect a youthful, charismatic black man as president and the music that that brings to my ears closely resembles the crinkling of a condom wrapper.
A new day is coming. The skeezy and unerotic sex scandal of the Clinton years was followed by seven years of fear. Fear of terrorism and freedom, certainly, but a fear also of sex that has manifested itself beyond the abstinence only, faith based bullshit. A nipple on the Super Bowl sends the country into a moral panic and our sexually repressed leaders validate and legitimize such ridiculous outrage with FCC fines and rhetorical prudishness.
But perhaps you may think that a woman in office would do more to free the sexual spirit of the American woman more than a man who is simply a different color than we are used to. I would be inclined to agree, were that woman anyone other than Hillary Clinton.
The message to my generation of a Hillary presidency would be disastrous--take heed, it would say, American woman: act frigid and unemotional, have just enough sex to make one kid, tolerate infidelity to further your own career, and at the end of the day we will all agree that getting a blowjob is an impeachable offense.
No thanks.
