Hey all you rabble rousers! Don't you get it! Being manly is it, and the way to be IT, is to obey the "lawful authority!"
Obedience to lawful authority is the foundation of manly character.
- (Confederate) General Robert E. Lee
Yup, and now you should know that that quote now graces the new Arlington County automobile decal.
But it gets better! Apparently they hired George Orwell Design LLC (actually it was a student competition).
Because the quote is superimposed over the American flag, along with an image of the pentagon!
JINGO was his NAME-O!!
More righteous indignation after the jump!
I gotta say that since it was a kid who designed it, I'm going to lay off of him. He's a kid, he should know better, but I'm not going to rake him over the coals.
But the adults! Holy shit my friends! Not only did his teachers not alert him to the Orwellian implications, but someone in authority actually thought this thing was the best of the bunch! Poor kid.
Anyway, here it is!
Yup! Just remember that obedience to lawful authority back in the day involved turning in human beings who didn't like being held as slaves, and if you were a woman, being lawful meant NOT voting.
Let's see, what else did the law mean back then?
How about paying a poor guy to fill your spot if you got drafted!
I'm not an expert on the law of the 1860s, but I imagine that being gay could probably get you into a lot of trouble.
Good thing that everyone was so good and obedient back in the day!
Wouldn't want there to be any civil disobedience to unjust laws! Wouldn't want a citizenry to be able to resist!
Oye.
And of course, we all know that the adjective "manly" equals "good." So all of you out there with "womanly" characters, or people like me, who are kind of skinny and like quiche, well, we're all out of luck.
Or maybe not. Perhaps it's a good thing for us. It's all the manly men who obey authority, and you and I get to do the heavy lifting by dragging our laws along to adapt to our expanding and progressive ideals.
And that image! My head hurts. J-I-N-G-O, J-I-N-G-O, J-I-N-G-O, and JINGO was his NAME-O!
The pentagon! The flag! Yes my friends, you better be obedient to those lawful authorities at the pentagon. Because, well, you know, we are ruled by the military.
Oh jeez, I could try to take the time to make this diary all smooth and profound, but you all get it.
Perhaps you might email Mr. Frank O'Leary and try to make sure that HE gets it too.
