If you ever thought of voting republican, just some words of advice...
So President Bush proposed a $145 billion economic stimulus package...
Gee Whiz Mr. President thanks for the crumbs from the dinner table in the big house.....
There has not been a republican administration in the past 75 years that has not ended in a financial disaster. Starting with Hoover in 1932 (what did they call that thing...? Oh yeah, the Great Depression!) to the end of the Ike years with the recession of 1960, all the way through the stagflation of the Nixon/Ford years, on up to failures of Reagan/Bush 1 (remember "Black Monday with the DJIA's 508 point free fall and, "It's the economy stupid"?) and now to Dubya's free lunch for the rich follies, we have had to endure way too much economic pain at the hands of "rich campaign contributors first" republican "leaders".
The core of the conservative economic policy, that the driving force of our economy is the rich at the top, is wrong. Call it what you want, "Supply side", "Tickle down", "Voodoo economics" or "The Bush tax cuts", they do not work and only lead to expanded inequality and preventable financial crisis'. It is only when these policies fail and we face a disaster (which is, by the way, not economic pain for American families, it is a disaster to face an up coming election with a bad economy in the headlines) do the politicians realize what the true driving force of the economy is; a strong, spending, working class. They spend eight years putting the poor and working class down and then, when it all goes belly up, they throw out a few crumbs.
Instead of a $145 billion stimulus package now, imagine what kind of economy we would have if we had taken the trillion dollar tax gift to the rich and invested into real education, a real health care system, real energy policies, expanded investment in our public infrastructure and other policies to strengthen American working families. Of course it will never happen as long as we keep putting these same disconnected conservative "leaders" back into the White House. Oh, BTW, notice that a central part of dubya's table scrapes proposal is to make permanent the trillion dollar tax gift to the rich. Wow, who would have thought that?
The longer I live the more I learn the basic truth about our political system; if you are a wage earner; if you do not have millions in a trust fund and you vote republican, you are an idiot.
