The first non-sponsored political rally I've seen in DC so far this season just drove right past my apartment.
It remains to be seen if this is indicative of the broader feelings of the Latino community in DC, but interesting nonetheless. At about 10:45 this morning, the sounds of cheering and Caribbean music rose up to our sixth floor apartment in the Adams Morgan neighborhood in NW Washington, DC. The caravan was led by a flatbed truck covered with Obama signs, some generic and many homemade. The source of the music was a band in the back braving the 42 degree weather - a full drum kit, stand up bass, keyboard and guitars. A string of ten or so vehicles followed, similarly decorated and full of enthusiastic supporters shouting, "Si Se Puede!" and other slogans of support. They headed east up Columbia Road drawing some amused looks and a few shows of support (including smiles and clapping from us). LatinObamamania? This can only be good for Barack, and hopefully these kinds of events will become more prevalent across the city and country.
