I saw folks were arriving early and signing up for the 6:30 caucus times in Minneapolis on the TV news, so on went the coat and boots, and off I walked for 2.5 blocks to my polling place where I expected to wait just a few minutes.
GOP and DFL were in the same building - different floors - down I go, to a floor with 20-30 people in the entry - helping folks find their right district and so forth.
Truth be told, I was there to cast one vote and move on, so I signed up, filled out the ballot, and when 630pm rolled around, they brought out the box, I dropped it in, and rock and roll. Maybe I'll do the full caucus experience some other time.
there were a lot more people in the hallways filling up as I head out - cool.
but I get outside, and the line keeps going around the parking lot - folks are coming to the building in droves, and it stretches outside the door at least 300 feet around the parking lot. Hundreds are in line now - Cars parked for two blocks around. I pass 50 people per block walking up to the building.
As I walked upstairs past the doors where the GOP caucuses were being held, there wasn't a single person standing in line to get in on that floor.
Democratic turnout is thru the roof here - hope it's the same in every state and town.
