The Contest I Look Forward To
When I watched Obama’s victory speech last night I wasn’t observant enough so I missed the fact that it was the same time as John McCain’s. Apparently some networks had them split-screened and the substantive, stylistic and symbolic contrasts were stark! Hopefully my more astute fellow Americans caught. I always thought Obama v. McCain would glaringly yet subliminally underscore a future v. past, anti-war v. war theme. Here is what Arianna Huffington had to say:
The overlapping oratories could not have been more dramatically different. One soared; the other plodded. One caused goose bumps; the other caused eyelids to flutter shut. One felt newly minted; the other could have been given by Herbert Hoover. I couldn't help but think to myself: if this is a preview of the general election, bring it on!
Hillary cannot bring this kind of contest. With her the contest is very muddled.
This is the contest we want. This is the contest that will bring us huge victories in November. This is the contest that could be TRANSFORMATIVE and bring us a progressive working majority!
