I'm a little disappointed with the front-pagers to be honest with everyone. For literally months, we were inundated with calls to action on behalf of Democrat Mark Pera - Kossacks consistently opened up their wallet - to the tune of over $57,000 - and those who lived in Chicago undoubtedly gave up their time. There's no question that we fought the good fight on this one, but I'm equally as mystified (and miffed) that there has been absolutely no mention of the third congressional district primary over the past two days. None.
As such, I went to the Cook County Election Department and looked myself, and sure enough, Lipinksi beat Pera by 21 percentage points. Let's be real - it should not have taken me to alert people here of the election results of a race that has been played up for quite some time now. As a progressive community, we have to look at our losses just as hard as we celebrate out wins, and for the FPers to simply ignore this one is irresponsible at best.
Where's the simple "thank you?"
I can remember countless diaries about Lipinski saying X or Lipinski writing Y, and as a result, we should give our money to fight that sort of thing. Now that the race is over though, and our guy lost, we brush the results under the rug and pretend they never happened? Much is made of the establishment taking us, the Democratic base, for granted. Maybe it's not just the party establishment we should be worried about.
Because no one else has posted the results, here they are in full:
Mark N. Pera 17,593 29.63%
Jim Capparelli 5,632 9.49%
Daniel Lipinski 30,080 50.67%
Jerry Bennett 6,064 10.21%
Update: It seems like I only posted the suburban Chicago results - these are the total vote counts, thanks to a number of commenters below who provided them:
Mark N. Pera 28,902 25%
Jim Capparelli 13,089 12%
Daniel Lipinski 61,078 54%
Jerry Bennett 10,460 9%
