At what point in time did MyDD morph into MyDLC?
I always thought that we (we being the netroots) were - for the most part - in agreement that the DLC and their centrist, appeasement agenda was a bad thing. That pursuing a strategy that basically said, "yes I too am as eager to kill us some Arabs, but I'm not as CRAZY as the actual republicans are" was a horrible strategy, not to mention a disgusting way of looking at matters anyway...
Update 2/8/08: DaveOinSF has posted a diary at MyDLC that compeltely mischaracterizes the premise of this diary. He claims this diary's premise is that since there a lot of Hillary supporters at MyDLC, that's the reason I think it's awful. Which, if you actually read this diary, there's much more to it than that. Sadly, the response is typical for a large portion of the MyDLC crowd of late.
I always thought that we were the ones who wanted to "Crash the Gate", meaning, the give voice and power back to the regular citizens of this country and to reduce the influence of Corporate Lobbyists. As opposed to going back in time to hand power back to the very organizations and people that allowed the Democratic Party to become so detached from it's constituents in the first place.
But somewhere along the line, MyDD, and by extension many Hillary Clinton supporters, decided that it's okay to play the DLC game. That it's okay to use 9/11 and terrorism to scare up votes. That it's okay to engage in xenophobic attacks on your Democratic opponent.
This is the same type of stuff we went through 4 years ago, when Howard Dean was berated and criticized all day every day by the Liebermans and other DLC's types. But in those days, places like Daily Kos and MyDD were the hubs of reason. The places where, even if the bloggers didn't support your candidate (and many of them did not), they were at least were honest brokers. They would at least let you know that it was okay to think Lieberman was a P.O.S. for saying Dean lived "in a spider hole of denial" for DARING to say that capturing Sadaam did not make the USA safer.
But somewhere along the line that has all changed, at least at MyDD.
Maybe it was when Hillary signaled to her supporters that it was hip to be Rovian when she suggested that electing Obama would lead to a horrible terrorist attack on day one.
Maybe it was when Bill Clinton signaled to Hillary's supporters that it was alright to play the race card when he dismissed Obama's huge SC blowout because, hey, Jesse Jackson won there twice!
Frankly, I don't know where it began. But I do know that this trend is very troubling, indeed. If the MyDD community isn't busy saying Obama has "no substance", or his followers are cultist, or that the DNC should change the rules mid-game and award her the FL and MI delagates; they are posting xenophobic bullshit like this:
Arab Media Loves Obama
If the Diary itself doesn't disturb the living hell out of you, the comments section surely will. I almost felt like I was visitng Free Frakkin' Republic.
MyDD used to be destination #3 to me since I started frequenting political blogs back in 2003. (#1 was DeanforAmerica and #2 was DailyKos). Needless to say, they are now on my list of sites I visit only to see what crazies are saying today....
From this day forward, I shall only refer to that site as MyDLC.
