Just for fun, let's look at various presidential relations and how they got jobs....
John Quincy Adams was appointed by his dad's boss, George Washington, with an ambassadorship. Adams, when he became president, recipricated by giving Washington's newphew Bushrod a supreme court appointment.
Secretary of State James Madison got his second cousin Zachery Taylor a commssion in the Army. Adams, Jr. got HIS sons governent jobs. However most of them were drunks and didn't get very far. John Van Buren was his daddy's chief of staff at the white house. Bob Lincoln got a couple of cabinet posts and made a ton of money by trading on his name. Grant's kids all got west point appointments, and then went on to be theives. Teddy Roosevelt's brood did pretty good in capitalizing on their name. Alice married a major congressman, and Ted Jr. was a colonial governor. The were all ticked off at cousin-in-law Franklin for taking the jobs that were rightfully theirs, like Governor of New York and President of the US. (Ted junior was also assistant Secretary of the Navy)
The Taft boys did pretty well. Bob tried to get elected president three times, and lost, and his baby brother Charlie was Governor of Cincinati for a while. Wilson "pimped out" his daughter to his secretary of the Treasury, Bill McAdoo, Herbert Hoover, Jr. was Undersecretary of State under Nixon, Some of FDR's kids were elected to congress, both ran for Governor (of California and New York) and got creamed.
Then there were the Kennedys. LBJ's son'n'law was elected to the Ssnate, Carter's kids all lost house races. Maureen Reagan ran for the senate and lost, but she was Chairperson of the GOP State comittee in California.
ON the other side, there was Sam Johnson and Billy Carter. It's said that Sam was locked up in the White House attic for most of the '60s, and that Billy should have been. Same with Don Nixon.
Then there were the Bushes and the Clintons. Roger, after he got out of jail, made a good living as a presidential brother. Hillary's brother Hugh used his relations to get a senate nomination in Florida, but that was 1994 and they didn't really campaign for him much.
Obama has a sister....
