I don't really get the Michelle Obama lovefest on this site (actually, I do, because nothing about the Obamas on this site is reason-based).
My opinion is that Barack Obama is a great candidate. I'm not currently supporting him, but if he wins the nomination I will wholeheartedly back him. I think what he (and we) will find out is that his not-ready-for-prime-time wife will be a serious liability in a no-holds-barred campaign with John McCain, not an asset.
She's hard edged and gaffe prone. The only thing that may save her is Hillary Clinton has busted down a lot of walls for a strong independent woman as first lady. But Hillary she is not.
I came to dislike Michelle Obama based on two comments.
There's this one ripping Hillary: "If you can't run your own house, you can't run the white house."
When I first heard about that I bought the Obama campaign line that it was taken out of context, but check out the video at the link. That's a comment that's beneath contempt - something I'd expect from a misogynistic right winger not a democrat.
Then again, her sexism shouldn't tar all dems because she's probably not a democrat. As we all know, she hasn't decided whether she'll support the democratic nominee if its not her husband.
Everyone on this site criticizes Hillary for her service on the Wal-Mart board (despite the fact that it was admirable service), but Michelle was on the board of TreeHouse foods, a major Wal-Mart vendor, until 2007. Only after it became an issue in the campaign did she cut her close and lucrative business ties with Wal-Mart.
Michelle Obama seems untested, gaffe prone, and more than a little full of herself.
