Many of us have seen FOX label McCain D-AZ, instead of R-AZ. Most excuse it away is FOX's gerneral incompetency. Why, after all, would they do this to one of their own? We see countless examples of lack of legitimate journalism and slander in covering liberals and liberal policies. Why come after McCain, is this a matter of sloppy journalism?
Upon closer review it's more likely that it's an intentional attack by the hardline Neo Con's at FOX.

Back in the day, when McCain still used "Straight talk", it made him more palatable among the somewhat rational people. FOX, however, was shocked speechless. In a few words, McCain destroyed everything FOX stands for. In an effort to maintain their illusion of sanity to themselves and their viewers, they tried to destroy McCain. His words here seem sensible, but as you can see in this clip, sensibility and FOX mix like oil and water.
It seems to me that FOX was pulling heavily for Romney, they didn't expect McCain to overtake him and certainly didn't expect Romney to pull out.
What makes McCain palatable to the American people is what NeoCons find revolting; sometimes he talks (or talked) sense. He finds himself in a hard position now. With Neo-Conservative policy unraveling, a Neo-Con stands little chance of being elected in the general election. As odd as it is, McCain's more liberal stances are what will win him the Republican nomination, and it is those same stances that make him hated among the Right.
What will McCain do? He has no choice. He will need to abandon his moderate views and give over to the Neo Cons. Some suggest that he has little choice but to give Huckabee the VP spot. Realistically, McCain-Huckabee has next to zero chance in the general election. Huckabee is not very well liked either, either by the Left or Right and his reactionary evangelical policies will cost him more votes than he'll win.
McCain is left only to let Huckabee embarrass him while he flip-flops his way further Right. As he's going Right, he'll be undoing what made him popular among the general voter and move away from the American people.
