The senator's response has been clear about getting the troops out of Iraq. He should continue to press his case by stating: 1. President Bush chose poor ground to fight the war on terror in Iraq. I (Obama) will choose the time and place to fight the terrorist. 2. He should de-link the war in Iraq with the war on terror. There is no war in Iraq, it is an occupation. He must state clearly that we are not retreating from Iraq, we are withdrawing our victorious occupying forces along with Iraqi nationals who helped us.
If Iraq is destabalized by our withdrawal, then it will keep every nation in the gulf battling for power in Iraq, thus turning their attention away from United States. And while, they and the international media are focused on the downfall of another failed state in the Arab world (yawn,so what else is new) we will continue to battle the terrorist in the shadows where it belongs.
Obama should not even use the word war. Since terrorism is a tactic we should not elevate our enemy, use the word battle or campaign or operations. He needs to assure Americans that it will continue but like the cold war, many of the successes will not be known. We have adequate forces now to operate against terrorist, SEALS, Delta, and Rangers, and God knows what else that we don't even know about.
