Back in early November there were a couple of diaries on dKos accusing the Clinton campaign of stiffing a waitress at a restaurant here in Iowa. She said she had not received a tip from the people with the Clinton campaign.
I've never been a Clinton supporter and I'm embarrassed to admit that I jumped into the discussion with some comments I'm not particularly proud of.
The Clinton campaign ultimately provided evidence that they had indeed tipped the waitress but not directly and the tip had failed to make its way to her. See this diary for the complete story.
So what's the point here?
The point is that far too many of us made unreasonable assumptions and nasty comments on those diaries and then allowed them to go uncorrected.
There must be a hundred diaries on here with similar unfounded assertions that are seized upon by opponents and run into the ground. I'm sure Mr. Obama has been a victim of the same treatment.
The political atmosphere is disintegrating to the point where I'm even beginning to feel sympathy for Republicans. This is not the way we should be choosing our leaders. Innuendo, false accusations uncorrected, concentrating on little pecadillos...none of these raise the level of discourse.
So, I apologize, Mrs. Clinton. I'm sorry it took so long.
