I posted this last night, just as the debate started, which I think was a mistake. I didn't even keep up much with the diary, since I was watching the debate and reading the threads myself. Since I don't think anyone has revisited it, and in light of the recent spate of candidate music videos, I thought I would add the latest entry from Amigos de Obama. In my view this is the best candidate music video yet, and I encourage you to take it viral. I dare you not to be singing this once you've listened.
My Spanish sucks, but I think I got it straight with help from a commenter. Lyrics and attempted translation are below the fold. If anyone feels like correcting me, I will update the diary.
Al candidato quien es Barack Obama,
Este corrido le canto con el alma,
Humilde fue nacido tambien sin pretencion,
Emprezo por las calles de Chicago,
Trabajando pa' lograr una vision,
Pa' proteger la gente trabajadora,
Y traernos todo juntos,
En esta gran nacion,
¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!) ¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!)
Familias unidas, seguras y hasta,
Con plan de salud.
¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!) ¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!)
¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!) ¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!)
Familias unidas, seguras y hasta,
Con plan de salud.
¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!) ¡Viva Obama! (¡Viva!)
Un candidato luchando,
Por nuestra nacion.
Translation:
To the candidate who is Barack Obama,
This song for him with spirit,
Humble, he was also been born without pretension,
He began on the streets of Chicago,
Working to realize his vision,
To protect working people,
And to bring to us all together,
In this great nation,
Viva Obama! (Viva!) Viva Obama! (Viva!)
Families united, safe, and families and -
Even with a health plan.
Viva Obama! (Viva!) Viva Obama! (Viva!)
A candidate fighting
For our nation.
It doesn’t matter if you’re from San Antonio,
It doesn’t matter if you’re from Corpus Christi,
From Dallas or the valley,
Houston or El Paso
What matters is that we vote for Obama
Because his fight is also our fight,
And today we have a pressing need
For a change we all unite
With our great friend!
Viva Obama! (Viva!) Viva Obama! (Viva!)
Families united, safe, and families and -
Even with a health plan.
Viva Obama! (Viva!) Viva Obama! (Viva!)
A candidate fighting
For our nation.
