Here comes the calvary. Even though this was, up until now, a dead story, leave it to right wings mouthpieces to re-hash, and exhibit unrivaled hypocrisy.
It was only a matter of time until we saw the surfacing of the far right wing attack monster begin it's work on Senator Barack Obama. We are talking about a conglomeration of talk radio personalities, fringe web sites, and the largest cancer of them all, Fox News. These people use attack methods that are borderline slanderous, and usually completely contrived situations or events, that really have nothing to do with the victims candidacy, instead merely a web of accusations, and what-ifs in a childlike, "well then this must mean that" fashion. People following the election, mainly us Democrats, knew that these lunatics would begin chipping away at Barack Obama sooner then later, it all depended on when they became tires or bored attacking their own, that being Senator John McCain. Well it looks like that time has come, now that Obama has all but sealed up the nomination the crack pots have begun their decent on decency, with the first conspiracy theory hit placed on Obama by the republican fringe group Newsmax.com. Now it is well known that Newsmax is really nothing more then a couple white supremacists hiding under the cloak of technology, but this time even they surprised me with their use of an old, played out, and factually untrue attack focused on Obama. Ronald Kessler, who usually remains above the fray when talking about this type of indictment journalism, writes about Michelle Obama's "pride" statement that was worded poorly, and then makes the wildly unwarranted assumption that her husband must hate America as well. Moreover arguing that indeed Barack Obama has spent the last year tirelessly campaigning for the presidency not because his love of the United States, but because his hatred of the United States. Kessler writes:
Equally important, her statement aligns perfectly with the hate-America views of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s minister, friend, and sounding board for more than two decades. On the Sunday following 9/11, Wright characterized the terrorist attacks as a consequence of violent American policies.
"In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01," Wright wrote in his church magazine Trumpet. "White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns."
Wright has been a key supporter of Louis Farrakhan, and in December, honored the Nation of Islam leader for lifetime achievement, saying he "truly epitomize[s] greatness."
Farrakhan has repeatedly made hate-filled statements targeting Jews, whites, America, and homosexuals.
Excuse me when I clean up the vomit off my keyboard, this is absolutely sickening. OK, all cleaned up, now this attack is teetering on the fence separating humor, and hypocrisy. Yes hypocrisy the underlining theme of everything republican. It seems as though Kessler is saying that since Jeremiah Wright has said some insane things that this means that Obama must hold the same beliefs, ultimately laying out the argument that any remarks made by a religious man who has any type of history with a given candidate directly implies that candidate shares the same beliefs of the said religious man, no matter how insane those beliefs are. Fair enough, but then I guess that would mean almost all republicans are American hating, crazy speaking, fundamentalists. That is, if we are going to use the Ronald Kessler candidate-preacher connection model which is being used against Obama. How so you ask, well the Republican party has been in bed with the late Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson for over 25 years now, accepting approximately $69 million from Falwell and his followers and an estimated $130 million dollars from Pat Robertson and the Christian Broadcast Network. Now seeing as though Barack Obama has received zero dollars from Jeremiah Wright, and is still being connected to his beliefs, then I can only Imagine what Kessler must think of the Republicans, who have accepted over $200 million dollars from the likes of religious zealots Falwell, and Robertson. If you think Wright's statements are bad, take a look at some of the zingers our buddies financing the GOP for the last three decades have proudly proclaimed:
* "If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being." -Jerry Falwell
* "God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve." Jerry Falwell on 911 Attacks
* "I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" -Jerry Falwell
* "AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals." - Jerry Falwell
* "AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharaoh's charioteers." -Jerry Falwell
* "The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by the Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian people and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society. And that's what's been happening." -Pat Robertson
* "The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -Pat Robertson
* "God's pattern is for men to be the leaders, both in the church and in the family... "Women should listen and learn quietly and submissively. I do not let women teach men or have authority over them." -Pat Robertson
* "Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals -- the two things seem to go together." -Pat Robertson
* "I think "one man, one vote," just unrestricted democracy, would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority which the white people represent now, a minority, and they need and have a right to demand a protection of their rights." -Pat Robertson
* "Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." -Pat Robertson
Wow, these two make Jeremiah Wright look like a puppy dog. I wonder if Mr. Kessler is aware of this connection, I am referring to the direct connection, which has a indisputably longer history, between religious nuts Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson and the Republican party at every level from the top down. Maybe Kessler wasn't aware of this relationship, and once he figures it out, he will also write a scathing piece proclaiming the majority of Republicans also hate don't really love America and what it stands for. Heck, he could start with Republicans George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, (R-KY) Sen. Mitch McConnell, Former President George H.W. Bush, Former President Ronald Reagan, and political foe, turned friend Sen. John McCain, who happens to also be running for the President of the United States. All of these men, and literally hundreds of other acting and retired Republican elected officials had personal friendships with Falwell, Robertson, or both. So lets be fair here. If this dolt wants to connect Obama with a preacher who has made "offensive" comments in the past. then let us do the same with Republican's and their history with controversial religious figures. But don't hold your breath because frankly, it will simply never happen, thanks to the unrivaled level of hypocrisy that infects the right wing to extent in which they literally become blind to the reality of a situation. The sad thing is people in this country, American citizens, actually read, watch and believe what the sanctimonious ideologues like Ronald Kessler wrote and say.
