Here we go, the fight is starting to get really UGLY, and we can presume that it will only get uglier as Clinton becomes more desperate, and as McCain's sleaziness continues to leak out. One can only hope that Obama will calmy refute or "clarify" the outrageous claims against him, but, otherwise STAY ON MESSAGE and most important of all, STAY ABOVE THE FRAY.
So, I thought I would take a moment and put out a short "wish list" if you will, of the kinds of things I'd like to hear Obama say.
Join me, if you'd like, and let's talk about what those things might be...
I was inspired to write this because, although I very much enjoy listening to Obama speak, there is one thing he says at almost every rally, and it's something along the lines of, "I know that change does not happen from the TOP down, it happens from the BOTTOM up."
And I wince.
In a flash, a whole bunch of thoughts race through my mind, that go something like this: "Is he telling me I'm at the bottom? Am I at the bottom?, Oh, and I guess you're at the top? What about the "we" you keep talking about?
And then I come to, and think, "he must not realize how that sounds." And frankly, it doesn't really get the crowd going much...And this is why I think that may be the case:
It has been said that in a democracy, we don't have "leaders"--our elected officials are elected to FOLLOW the will of the electorate.
We are the electorate. We, the people, are the one's with the POWER. We, therefore, are not the "bottom." So, I wish Obama would stop referring to us as "the bottom. It feels bad.
Along the same lines, I'd really like to hear Obama talk more about DEMOCRACY, and everything DEMOCRATIC. Talk about Democratic Principles--this will contrast nicely against the Republican Culture of Corruption.
And finally, Obama could start quoting the CONSTITUTION. We LIKE the Constitution. We RESPECT the Constitution. It's been abused and trashed for far too long. Obama--Please give the Constitution some love.
If Obama started talking more about Democracy and the Constitution, he could soar above the petty bullshit that the right wingers are going to be throwing at him, and REALLY inspire us!
What do you think?
