On Drudge Report just now, is the report of Clinton staffers circulating a picture of Barack Obama in tribal costume, which he wore during his trip to Africa.
CLINTON STAFFERS CIRCULATE 'DRESSED' OBAMA
Mon Feb 25 2007 06:51:00 ET
With a week to go until the Texas and Ohio primaries, stressed Clinton staffers circulated a photo over the weekend of a "dressed" Barack Obama.
The photo, taken in 2006, shows Obama dressed as a Somali Elder, during his five-country tour of Africa.
"Wouldn't we be seeing this on the cover of every magazine if it were HRC?" questioned one campaign staffer, in an email obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT.
In December, the campaign asked one of its volunteer county coordinators in Iowa to step down after the person forwarded an e-mail falsely stating that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
We need to e-mail the Hillary Clinton campaign and ask them to disavow this shit, and to fire whichever staffers did this. If they fired staffers for stuff like this before, they should do it now. It's clear that Hillary's campaign has gone so low to throw everything at Barack Obama and at us for supporting his historic campaign.
UPDATED:
The Politico reports that the Clinton campaign did not deny the charges they leaked this to the Drudge Report. I've included a statement from the Obama campaign on this matter:
Plouffe said in a statement: "On the very day that Senator Clinton is giving a speech about restoring respect for America in the world, her campaign has engaged in the most shameful, offensive fear-mongering we’ve seen from either party in this election. This is part of a disturbing pattern that led her county chairs to resign in Iowa, her campaign chairman to resign in New Hampshire, and it’s exactly the kind of divisive politics that turns away Americans of all parties and diminishes respect for America in the world," said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe.
The Clinton campaign has sent out their response according to Politico.com, but still has not issued a denial of the issue as to the circulation of this photo by Clinton staffers.
SECOND UPDATE:
The Clinton campaign puts out a response from Maggie Williams, which doesn't respond to the question of whether a staffer was circulating the photo of Obama in Somali garb, but takes issue with the Obama campaign's embrace of the issue:
Enough.
If Barack Obama's campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely.
This is nothing more than an obvious and transparent attempt to distract from the serious issues confronting our country today and to attempt to create the very divisions they claim to decry.
We will not be distracted.
