Lisa Schiffern has written some things before that manage to both simultaneously red- AND race-bait. Remember this?
Political correctness was invented precisely to prevent the mainstream liberal media from persuing the questions which might arise about how Senator Obama's mother, from Kansas, came to marry an African graduate student. Love? Sure, why not? But what else was going on around them that made it feasible?
Here's your sign, Lisa: Don't want a cheap accusation of racism leveled at you? A first step is not to be racist!
Now, she links approvingly to this atrocity:
Never underestimate the influence of a wife who bitch-slaps her husband in public.
What next, Lisa? An extended essay on how Michelle Obama's vagina has teeth?
More on the flip...
The piece from the Asia Times is worth taking a look at, if only to get a glimpse into the mind of someone who is simultaneously a red-baiter, a racist and a self-hating woman.
"Frustration" and "disappointment" have dogged Michelle Obama these past 20 years, despite her US$300,000 a year salary and corporate board memberships.
For someone who belongs to a movement that professes to hate the materialism of the Left, equating a $300,000/year salary with happiness and fulfillment sure sounds like materialism (vs. spiritualism) to me. Not only that, but Spengler is an Australian, presumably white, man. Lisa Schiffern is a white American woman. I am amazed that they presume to know how a black woman, no matter how privileged she is, feel.
How strong the ideological motivation must be of a mother to raise her children on the thin fair in pursuit of a political agenda.
And where is the evidence that there was any political motivation? Where?
Before deposing him in 1967, Indonesia's military slaughtered 500,000 communists (or unfortunates who were mistaken for communists). When Ann Dunham chose to follow Lolo Soetero to Indonesia in 1967, she brought the six-year-old Barack into the kitchen of anti-colonialist outrage, immediate following one of the worst episodes of civil violence in post-war history.
This paragraph is incoherent. Why would anybody who is a communist go to a country where the new regime just slaghtered 500,000 communists? Spengler is writing idiocy here. I am mildly encouraged though: Schiffern approvingly links to a source that states unequivicably as a fact that a US backed right wing dictatorship committed an act of genocide. I didn't think American allies could do that.
Radical anti-Americanism, rather than Islam, was the reigning faith in the Dunham household. In the Muslim world of the 1960s, nationalism rather than radical Islam was the ideology of choice among the enraged. Radical Islam did not emerge as a major political force until the nationalism of a Gamal Abdel Nasser or a Sukarno failed.
Spengler is obviously ignorant of politics in the Arab/Non-aligned world at this time, seeing as how the Muslim Brotherhood, founded in Egypt in 1928, had over a million adherents out of a population of less than 20 million around 1970. And Spengler presents no evidence, NONE, to show that "radical anti-Americanism, rather than Islam, was the reigning faith in the Dunham household," other than to say that the Dunham household lived outside the United States. I guess that makes them automatically suspect.
Barack Obama is a clever fellow who imbibed hatred of America with his mother's milk, but worked his way up the elite ladder of education and career.
Again, an amazing statement with no basis in anything resembling fact.
He shares the resentment of Muslims against the encroachment of American culture, although not their religion
.
Barack Obama IS modern American culture as it is, as it will be and as it has been - a radical melding of many different cultures.
Their [American] national religion has consisted of waves of enthusiasm - "Great Awakenings" – every second generation or so, followed by an interim of apathy. In times of stress they have a baleful susceptibility to hucksters and conmen.
Spengler is calling me - AND YOU - a stupid asshole.
The whole article is amazing in the breadth and depth of its stupidity. I encourage you to go read it just to see what we are up against.
A final "thought":
"Evil will oft evil mars", J R R Tolkien wrote. It is conceivable that Barack Obama, if elected, will destroy himself before he destroys the country. Hatred is a toxic diet even for someone with as strong a stomach as Obama.
The National Review approves.
