Or at least that's what Jake Jacobs - Military Analyst - tells us in an MSNBC column from today. How do we know this? It seems that the ever mendacious Obama has been caught relating an obviously false anecdote about the experiences of an certain Army captain in Afghanistan.
Does this sound familiar? Follow me a bit further...
It should, because - while I'm sure Jake is one heck of a military analyst - he's seems to have arrived a little late to this party. You see, our conservative blogger friends crashed this party last week, and could be seen drunkenly lurching about here, here, and here.
And even while the 101st Fighting Keyboarders can cause quite a mess, it was soon cleaned up to the relief of those of us who are not members of the shrieking monkey right.
Of course, since Mr. Jacobs was probably busy analyzing military things in MSNBC's War Room (No Fighting!), he probably missed the fact that his "story" was debunked before it was born:
Here he is today:
But last week, during his debate with Clinton, Obama tried speaking about substance when he mentioned the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he displayed an astounding ignorance of the military instrument. He said that an anonymous U.S. Army captain told him that his infantry platoon was split and sent to different areas of operations; that they were lacking vehicles; and that they had insufficient ammunition to fight.
Although problems do occur in combat situations to be sure, none of what Obama related makes any sense and is, according to people with whom I spoke, untrue. Units the size of platoons are not sent to separate theaters, ammunition has been plentiful, and an investigation indicates that the unit in question was missing only one of its Humvees, all to no peril of the unit.
But this is perhaps as good a time as any to remember that memes like this - Obama unfriendly towards and ignorant of the military - continue to walk the earth even after several apparent deaths. They are the living dead that inhabit our political culture, and they won't be put to rest unless we all stay vigilant, and push back wherever they rear up. ...and they will continue to rear up.
