Watching CNN just now I saw a segment featurning the "war" that Conservative columnist Bill Cunningham has just launched on John McCain. This is a problem for John McCain.
First of all, this guy Cunningham is a complete fucking loon. He's on television ranting and raving about how "Juan Pablo McCain needs to apologize for supporting amnesty and allowing millions of illegals into this country...." He's just hammering McCain for being a closeted liberal and someone who has betrayed his fellow conservatives.
Hey John, welcome to your base. The Rush Limbaugh, Bill Cunningham crazy, xenophobic, racist, bigoted disgusting base that is the rotten core of the modern Republican party. These guys speak for millions of intolerant, uneducated Americans who have been voting R ever since Nixon deployed the Southern Strategy back in the 1970's.
And while the Republican party was able to keep them behind the curtain with nominees like Shrub, now they are coming out in howling force as the Reagan coalition has shattered around them. This faction of the party hates John McCain with a passion because of his support of immigration, and they hate Obama even more because he happens to share a middle name with a murdered dictator who was located 10,000 miles away from him. Ladies and gentlemen of the United States, welcome to the modern Republican party.
This is a problem for John McCain. 80% of America is rightly disgusted by these vile smears that are crawling from the sewers of right-wing talk radio to the daylight of the MSM. McCain can apologize all he wants, but we are going to hear a running drumbeat of this crap for the next 8 months and there is nothing he can do to stop it. The more Americans hear this negativity the more they will be turned off by it. And while we still have a long ways to go in eliminating institutional racism in this society, America will no longer tolerate the open bigotry epitomized by Bill Cunningham, Rush Limbaugh and the Tennessee State Republican party. It just ain't gonna fly this year.
And there's nothing McCain can do to stop it. This is a problem for John McCain.
