As nearly flawless as I think the Obama campaign has been in message, mechanics, and media manipulation, I’m not impressed by their choice of music. The most prominent song in the Obama rallies has been "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours," a 40-year old song from Stevie Wonder that sends a mixed message: "Like a fool I went and stayed too long/And now I’m wondering if your love’s still strong/Ooh, baby, here I am/Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m yours."
After a rousing Obama revial, isn’t there a better song to cap the evening than a 38-year old Motown classic that was released before 75% of the audience was born? The candidate himself was nine years old when the song was released; his wife was six years old.
Just recently, Sam Moore of the 1960s Stax Records duo Sam & Dave demanded that Obama stop using their 1967 hit, "Hold On, I’m Coming" at his rallies. OK, another song from 1967. I was five years old when it came out, and I’m on the older ebb of Obama’s main appeal.
So this is put to you—what songs would you suggest Barack Obama use to complement his message for the primaries and/or general election?
