It sickens me when our national media repeatedly dedicates air time to local stories, especially when that means more face time for a schmuck like Drew Peterson, when our soldiers (and Iraqi civilians) are still dying in Dubya's still-unjustified 'war of choice' in Iraq.
We usually watch the NBC's Today show in the morning, but we changed the channel when Drew Peterson graced us with his visage. But I doubt even 'Big Time' Dick Cheney cares what shows we watch, so I just sent NBC an e-mail asking them to please stop giving Drew Peterson face time, and tried to constructively suggest news topics to consider (full letter after the jump)....
Dear NBC/Today show producers,
I just wanted to let you know that while we always watch the Today show in the morning, we change the channel whenever Drew Peterson makes an appearance.
Stacy Peterson's disappearance is indeed a tragedy, worthy of a mention on your program. However, it is ultimately just a local story, and is not worth the constant national attention your program dedicates to it. All you are doing is giving Mr. Peterson, who at best is merely a self-serving idiot, unjustified face time on national TV.
If you'd like suggestions on the kind of national news stories that deserve your attention, perhaps you can sic that very serious Tim Russert on why president Bush could not allow the U.N. weapons inspectors to finish their jobs before launching his invasion of Iraq in 2003. Or perhaps you could investigate whether starting a foreign war on the flimsiest of evidence to gain a political advantage at home, and then profiting handsomely off said war, constitutes treason. Finally, you could investigate why so many Americans inexplicably continue to believe that Saddam Hussein played an active role in the 9/11 attacks, while we still haven't caught the real mastermind, Osama bin Laden. (You might conclude such a piece by asking who is responsible for spreading this misinformation, so please keep a mirror handy.)
