Most of us have todo lists. "Buy Circus tix", "Clean out that drawer", "Plan trip to London", etc.
But I think all of us also have problems following the todo lists and dealing with the items we think will be really hard.
There seem to be a number of people, though, who claim to follow their todo lists, but never seem to get around to the top items on their lists.
I no longer believe that they really have those items on their todo lists. They just claim they do to sucker people.
These people are what we call "the religious right".
Here's what I take away as Jesus's todo list:
- Love one another. A lot.
- Help the Poor.
- Feed the Hungry.
- Heal the Sick.
- Pay your Taxes.
- Don't get too involved in Organized Religion.
- Don't worry so much about Death.
I really don't see many of the people who are most vocal about "Family Values" actually paying much attention to the todo list items above.
[this is paraphrased from something I read somewhere recently]
A Christian works on all of the above todo items.
Most "religious conservatives" aren't actually Christians, but Authoritarians who wrap themselves in Christianity. Christianity is the velvet glove wrapping the Authoritarian (usually patriarchal) iron hand.
Just needed to get that off my chest.
