Rep. Lee Terry (R NE-02) has finally put his foot down on Congressional Subpoena power. When one of the infamous witnesses refused to appear, Terry said it was akin to "giving the committee the finger" and that the witness's excuse was "hollow."
Of course, Terry would never stand up to Bush or his Republican "leadership," so how did he manage to make these public comments??
Its because he wasnt talking about Miers, Bolton, et al. No, Lee is furious because Vince McMahon did not appear before his subcommittee to talk about sterioids. Vince McMahon, who notified the committee in advance that he would be unable to appear due to the fact that his attorney would not be present.
Was Lee as furious when Bolton and Miers refused to appear? You bet. At Democrats. Lee was so very angry at Democrats for trying to enforce subpoenas that he left the house chamber with other Republicans.
Lee Terry exemplifies what is so wrong with Republicans in Washington. Its not that Lee is evil (though if he votes against S-CHIP too many more times, I may have to remove that qualifier). Its that Lee does whatever his Republican "leadership" tells him, regardless of how hypocritical it may be, regardless of whether it's good for his district.
Lee has been in Congress for 10 years, and has been the initial sponsor of a grand total of ONE BILL that has ever been passed by the House--and that was to rename a post office. Lee is the epitome of the do-nothing Congressman, and that's one of the many reasons why he needs to be beat.

Fortunately, we have exactly the candidate to beat him. His name is Richard Carter. He served seven years active duty in the Air Force. He currently serves in the Air Force reserve. While on active duty, he earned his Masters degree in Economics, and currently teaches Econ at a local community college.
He lives in Sarpy county, one of two counties which make up NE-02. It is traditionally a more Republican county, but it is very heavy military. I have already spoken with several residents who have voted for Lee Terry in every election so far, but will be voting for Richard in November. A few of them have even donated, and a few of those have pledged to volunteer.
Richard is an excellent candidate. He is honest, smart, and sincere. He is a perfect fit for this district, which hasn't elected a Democrat to Congress since 1992. He is also becoming a member of this community. He has posted several times here on the issues, as well as starting a weekly live blog. (The next one is this Sunday at 3:30 CST, and will be centered on education.)
I am telling you, this guy is the real deal. We can beat this do nothing Republican, but we need your help. Please consider making a donation, even if it's as little as $5 (or as much as $2300). Every little bit helps. Thanks for all of your support.
