CNN: Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.
He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax.
Thank you, Gary, for creating the major obsession of my geeky life from the ages of 10 - 12, 1981 - 1983. Many an afternoon was wasted hunched over 20-sided dice, calculating my to-hit chances and hoping to make my saving throws. Actually, usually I'd just cheat. I had a 50th level paladin with psionic powers who killed Odin.
If you're following me, then you too, have at least some geek in you. Hats off to Mr. Gygax, King of the Geeks.
