This is my first diary. I hope it's ok, but I thought perhaps we could use a little levity.
I've been thinking about the characterizations of Democrats by beverages. I've heard "latte-drinking liberals." I've heard "beer Democrats" vs. "wine Democrats." I've even heard NPR stories that always seem to start or end in a small-town cafe.
So what is it about beverages? Why are lattes especially liberal when there's a Starbucks on every corner and they're always open, except, of course, when they're not? If you're a "wine democrat," does it matter how much you paid for the wine? (Here in California, the most popular stuff by far is Charles Taylor, aka "Two Buck Chuck.") Are there "microbrew Democrats?" What if you prefer milk, or tea, or root beer floats?
Maybe not such an irrelevant diary after all, if you think about FDR and his definite penchant for cocktails. I could use a good Sidecar myself right about now.
