All the news networks chop and divide the electorate into different groups. There is the Latino vote, the ethic white vote, white males, white female (as though female/male weren't enough division), catholics, blacks, etc.
I for one am tired of the division in our country, and it really disgusts me that the MSM is trying to divide us further. It is not true that "catholics" have some bias for Clinton. It is only mildly interesting that latinos "have" supported HRC. Separating white female voters from all other female voters only serves to divide us more.
I have very little doubt that our identity politics is playing a part in how the voters are casting their ballots. I also am aware that the press is participating in the division in the voting blocks.
In the beginning of this campaign, blacks were supporting HRC over Obama. I understand that there are good theories as to why they now support Obama. That he established viability etc. I am also aware that if you make the contest into a sport people will have home teams. And if the media emphasizes identity the voters will vote for their home team i.e. whomever they identify with.
My point is that at some point we need to start writing the media and saying look we won't watch this stuff if you keep trying to divide us. We have a hard enough time as human beings trying to overcome our petty prejudices against people who are different.
The crazy part of it is that regardless of whether identity matters (like in some of the 12 states Obama won in a row when he won every demographic) the media goes on and on about how the demographics voted. Its disgusting, its racist, its sexist, it divides us on religion, class, education levels....
It's pathetic, I'm sick of it, I wish they would stop it.
