The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt
I've been thinking about those "fear" ads.
Americans should fear the loss of their job & healthcare due to the very real economic nightmare caused by the trillion dollar war for which Clinton voted, not the scary scenarios the Clinton campaign has conjured up..
Frightening our citizens silly has been going on long enough with catastrophic results: a trillion dollar war with no end in sight and the loss of over a million lives. Now the special interests are hankering for another war with Iran, and they are doing their utmost to scare us into it.
Maybe we should try to outsmart them by not playing into the outcome those ads wish to engender: our getting angry, feeding into the fear factor of these ads.
The Iraq War is real. The Iraq War is hurting millions of people, here and abroad. The Iraq War is creating hate, which helps to recruit terrorists. Obama was against this real threat to our national security. Clinton was for it. She rose at Bush's State of the Union Address and applauded the surge, which ethnically cleansed Iraq and promoted even more hatred, which is not an outcome meriting a standing ovation. Now she is talking about using military force against Iran. Barrack is talking about diplomacy, not bombing. He is the one who will best keep our nation safe.
Do not be fooled by their rhetoric of fear. What's in a name? It's a superficial appellation that has nothing to do with how he will govern. In fact, their making such a big deal about names, a flagrant attempt to cast aspersions on ethnicities and religions, creates hatred, the fuel of terrorism. So, whenever they bring up our various surnames and other differences to divide us, they are threatening our national security by fanning the flames of hatred.
So, let us not grieve, but roll up our sleeves and get to work. Let's help Obama get his message across. Let's not help them get their message across by reacting to it. Let's keep telling the people the truth about the real issues we face as a nation.
....if one candidate is trying to scare you, and the other one is trying to make you think, if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes. You better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.
~ William Jefferson Clinton
