Well, not exactly but that is the narrative that has worked for Hillary based on CNN Exit Polls.
Has a clear plan for country's problems?
Only Clinton Only Obama
Rhode Island 34 13
Vermont 19 11
Texas 29 16
Ohio 27 15
More...
Not surprisingly, the voters broke well over 90% towards the candidate if they thought they were the only one with a clear plan. Barack held his own amongst voters who thought both or neither had a clear plan. Unfortunately, Hillary's "just words" and "just speeches" comments have resonated with some voters. The media has been more than willing to reinforce this position just like they reinforced the John Kerry flip flop perception.
Obama has an uphill battle both now and in November. He is losing too many democrats right from the start. While I sense a lot of anger and how Obama needs to fight back versus Hillary's tactics, I believe what really needs to occur is that Obama needs to convince the 20-35% of democrats that believe only Hillary has a plan that he too has a strong record and plans.
Here is a great diary on that:
Obama's Record Reference: Version 1
My fear is that he will continue to give truly inspirational speeches but not convince more democrats and the American public there is meat behind the words. In an interesting article by Jonathan Alter, he writes about David Axelrod..
Where Axelrod falls short is on policy prescriptions. Like a lot of operatives, he doesn't think they're terribly important. But Obama's biggest cheers on the campaign trail come when he gets specific in explaining what he would do as president.
My hope is that his advisors recognize that he needs to talk policy more and convince the skeptics.
Stay positive, Barack. Attacking Hillary will not turn these voters.
YES WE CAN!!!
