I want to propose a petition to freeze the diary entries for a day to let Administrators figure out exactly how to stem the flow of vitriol from the community here at Daily Kos.
I'm a relatively new diary writer, but I have been a lurker here on the site for some time, and I've noticed that there is a lot of fire and passion behind the two democratic candidates (duh). Most of these people, on both sides, I believe mean well. Most candidate diary entries I've read state disclaimers at the beginning, clearly saying that we are, above all, democrats, and that nothing should come between us on that issue, even candidate loyalties.
However, a number of people have pushed through in their diaries propositions that would suggest that one candidate or the other takes precedent over party affiliation. This is unfortunate, and has lead to a number of people reacting negatively to it.
I suggest that we, as the community, petition to voluntarily give up writing privilegesfor a 24 hour span, allowing administrators and fp'ers to institute a little order around here. Maybe create a few new rules, baring certain discussed topics until the nomination is over, or some other such ideas. Feel free to express your own ideas (as I have very few) in the comments as to how an effective no-write day, or any other form of cool-down, could be instigated.
Please rec, and vote as to whether some such action would be beneficial to the community here. Again, I'm suggesting a 24 hour no-write to llow things to cool down, allow admins to clean up, and also potentially allow a few new pieces of protocol to weave their way into the system.
UPDATE:
rec for conversation starter. I think it's important the community considers things like this. Keep talking.
Question: what would having a moratorium hurt? There's really no foreseeable problem I can imagine by just stop-gagging the writing for a day. just in the interest of experimentation.
