Friends, kossacks, netizens, lend me your eyes. I have watched the evolving fight between you, even joining in at times, and I have become increasingly both nervous and annoyed. And a little hungry.
While out here in the non-virtual world of my family and work life, people are sort of committed to a candidate, but they aren't all that obsessed with it.
The people I know who are actually involved in the campaigns, however, are pretty entrenched. I actually worked for an Obama delegate when she was an aldermanic candidate, and she seems to be pretty frothy right now, and is at odds with the precinct captain in my neck of the woods. Much like most of the people here at Daily Kos.
I have been so concerned by the prospect of an imploding party and the resulting McCain presidency that I called the most intelligent person on Air America: Rachel Maddow. The conversation went something like this:
Me: Hi, Rachel. I think that a shared ticket would be great, but it seems like the people who are the activists for both candidates--the people doing the phone banking and knocking on doors--have dug in their heels. On the discussion forums and blogs, I hear a lot of them say they'll vote for McCain if "X Candidate" is nominated.
Rachel: Well, they need to get over it! Thanks for calling.
So, there you have it. Get over it, indeed.
How about this: I'm going to start calling and writing both candidates to urge them to accept some form of unity ticket or copresidency, and drop the stupid roadhouse barfight!
Who's with me?
