Gotta let this out: I am sick and tired of the free ride being given to John McCain and the shabby reporting being done by the Times!
Casually slipped into this article is the following:
His fund-raising success again raises the question of whether Mr. Obama intends to back away from accepting public financing in the general election — should he ultimately defeat Mrs. Clinton — if the Republican nominee did the same. Mr. Obama’s hesitation has drawn criticism from Senator John McCain, the perspective Republican nominee, who is likely to accept the $85 million public financing, financed by taxpayers, to be spent in the final two months of the race.
Sorry, that's bullshit. McCain is frantically trying to back out of public financing. Hate to break it to the media, but McCain's not some public interest warrior in pursuit of campaign purity. Moreover, it's not clear Obama ever promised that he would accept it. I guess this is the kind of treatment you get when you have the press over for a BBQ.
