Cognitive Dissonance - This occurs when external reality conflicts with internal reality. It's a psychologically painful phenomenon that is resolved in two ways.
- Realize that one's internal reality may be incorrect, and correspondingly readjust one's internal reality to match external reality.
- Refuse to admit one's internal reality is incorrect, and begin to selectively ignore external realities that conflict with one's internal reality (aka, the GBCW diary).
DailyKos has managed to remain a reality-based community, for the most part, shrill comments and diaries aside. I used to be a Hillary supporter (go ahead, check my diary history). But in my life I've learned how to give up even strongly held beliefs in the face of incontrovertible facts. Here are just a few. Maybe you have more.
FACT: Short of Obama dying or being caught with a dead hooker, Hillary is extremely unlikely to win the pledged-delegate race.
FACT: Hillary's campaign lied about NAFTA-gate.
FACT: Hillary has been praising John McShame while simultaneously insulting the overwhelmingly likely Democratic Presidential nominee.
FACT: Hillary resorted to race-baiting in South Carolina.
FACT: Hillary voted to authorize the Iraq war.
FACT: Hillary designated the Iran military as a terrorist organization, giving cover to Bush/Cheney to invade Iran.
FACT: Hillary refuses to release her records as First Lady and her tax returns since then.
FACT: Obama has inspired millions of new Democratic voters and has broken all-time fundraising records.
FACT: Hillary came into the Presidential race with every advantage imaginable, and has blown almost every single one.
FACT: Obama has more elected experience than Hillary.
FACT: Hillary is one of the most polarizing figures in American history, and certainly at this juncture in history.
Is this the kind of leader America needs right now?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?
