Wow... I mean. Wow! I've seen it all here, but this last week really takes the cake. Trying to keep up with the tiresome, un-hinged, un-thinking blather that seems to keep re-spawning itself in the "recent diaries" list and the fanatical associated stream of "comments" is reminding me way too much of Junior High School.
So, I'm off to spend more time with the kids... be a bit more productive at work.. Maybe volunteer for a local campaign.. and get ready to knock on doors sometime (hopefully) in August. If there's anything left to support.
But before, I go, in perfect GBCW fashion, I'm going to indulge myself in some parting shots:
* Does everyone here realize how silly and self-contradictory it is to complain in one minute how Candidate A is "Destroying the Democratic Party" and in the next "I will never vote for them if they win"?
* The beauty of the Obama and Clinton story for 2008 is it's our first chance to put race and gender behind us, and yet you are so clearly fixated with blaming and baiting around issues of racism and sexism that you are simultaneously writing that hope out of all possible existance.
* Both candidates are talking about hope, change, leadership, experience, and a new message for America. Thing is, you're all so busy gasping over the atrocious behavior of the other side that you're utterly failing (in about 75% of the content on this site) to make a positive case for any vestige of that message of hope.
* This site has become abusive, frighteningly close minded and fanatical, and the complete opposite of the healing and competent message that Americans are so thirsting for right now.
* The democrats have two amazing candidates left from a field of about a dozen amazing candidates. They have voted with each other, and with the democratic party 90% of the time. They have some differences in personality, a few subtle policy issues, and approach - but they are both gifted and capable politicians.
* A special message to my fellow Obama supporters. Many of you are working your asses off, formulating productive actions plans, getting out the vote, working (it takes a LOT of work for change) to make this dream a reality. And a disturbing minority (God I hope it's a minority) are nothing less than a hindrance to the message of unity, hope, and positive steps forward in America that is at the heart of this Movement. Maybe you'll learn, like I did when I supported Howard Dean, the subtleties of winning (and losing) elections, but I hope you learn quick. We don't have much time.
* A special message to Clinton Supporters (if there are any left after the purging of their viewpoints from this site). Please vote for Obama if he wins - and realize that your are not going to win if you go negative. Not in the short term, and definitely not in the long term. Also, listen to these new Obama voices - they need to eviscerate you for awhile, because it's part of their process. But they are the future of America, and you need to stay involved with them so that their voices can be strengthened with wisdom.
* A final note to anyone who's married or in a similar partnership. This site is indicative of a looming divorce - the interpersonal treatment, the blame, the growing resentment. Please do what you can to recognize how you've resolved conflicts in your own life and help us make sure it doesn't happen to this movement, this site, this party, and this nation.
Thanks guys, for everything. I love you all.
