Dear DNC,
I was a contrubutor to Dr. Dean when he ran for the Presidency in 2004. I also caucused for the good Doctor in Washington State. After his campaign sputtered, I volunteered and worked for John Kerry. I gave to Tim Walz in his campaign to take a long-Republican seat in southern Minnesota (I'm in the military; Minnesota is my home of record) in 2006.
Dr. Dean brought me into Democratic politics. I still support him and his platform of "more and better Democrats." I understand the need for the DNC to be impartial in the primary/caucus process -
BUT
At what point does the party say "enough is enough" when one of its candidates effectively ENDORSES the Republican nominee in an effort to drive down support for her opponent? At what point is it okay for one candidate to peddle photographs of the other candidate in a turban to the right-wing website "The Drudge Report?" At what point does the party penalize that candidate for demanding in the media delegates from contests which SHE AGREED IN ADVANCE WOULD NOT COUNT FOR DELEGATES, undermining the Party and its previously agreed-upon rules?
For all intents and purposes Senator Clinton is no longer running as a Democrat - she is running as an "Independent Democrat" along the lines of Joseph Liberman. At what point does the Party stand up for itself, for its process, for the majority of voters in the primaries and caucuses thus far?
If a first-term black Member of Congress from New York were actively undermining the party in the most crucial election year in living memory - I have no doubt that the response from the Party would be swift and sure. The Party needs to respond to the second-term Member of Congress from New York immediately - no matter who her husband is.
Very best regards,
Oregon Guy
