First, let me know if this has been diaried already. Nothing came up in a search, so I'm diarying with good intentions.
The March 7 Hollywood Reporter carries an article entitled Disney steers clear of 'Path to 9/11'
The article reports that Disney CEO Roger Iger's big bucks pay package is being challenged by a fund manager, Tom Borelli, at Disney's annual shareholder's meeting due to Disney's shelving of the DVD version of The Path to 9/11, a 2006 miniseries.
Here's where the Disney gets gated -
"Path" was a 2006 ABC miniseries critical of President Bill Clinton's handling of terrorist threats that was so controversial it prompted leading Democrats to ask Disney not to air the program. Disney, after making some hasty edits, ran it commercial-free.
At the shareholder's meeting in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, Borelli (the fund manager) accused protecting Hillary Clinton over the vested interest of the shareholders. Why? Because Iger's a card-carrying, long-time member of Hillaryland!
The fund manager, Tom Borelli, accused Iger of protecting HIllary Clinton's presidential campaign at the expense of shareholders and pointed out that Iger has been a steady Clinton donor since before the former first lady was elected to the Senate.
Iger's political sensitivity does not extend itself to the Republican Party.
The fund manager noted Disney's reported $46 million profit on "Fahrenheit 9/11," also a politically controversial project -- though far more critical of Republicans than Democrats.
Apparently, this political sensitivity and Iger's willingness to put his loyalty to the Clintons over his corporate fiduciary responsibility to Disney shareholders has been mentioned to reporters in the past.
According to the article, one of the screenwriters on the project, Cyrus Nowrasteh, told reporters that "a top executive at ABC Studios confided that "if Hillary weren't running for president, this wouldn't be a problem."
So, what's the behind the scenes story on this? Why is the CEO of Disney willing to kill the possibility that Disney can recoup some its $40 million investment in the miniseries in order to protect his political friends, Hillary and Bill?
I have to confess that even though I have three children, I've never been a big audience for Disney miniseries.
What was the critical information in the series that was so damaging to Bill Clinton?
Since Hillary Clinton is claiming her eight years as First Lady in the Clinton Whitehouse as part of her national security experience, how damaging will this withheld information be to her claim that she's ready on Day One to be a better Commander-in-Chief than John McCain?
You can bet your one hundred and one dalmatians that McCain's campaign is going to turn Hillary's claim to Bill's presidency into a major drawback with footage provided by a boot-legged copy of the Disney product and how Disney-gate denied the shareholders their legal profits.
No happy ending in this tale for Disney, Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party, or our nation.
