A huge election won in IL-14, a strong candidate for President who may well have had a great deal to do with it. People across the country turning out for the dems, and in huge droves. Sure, petty politics has tried to intervene, most especially in the Hillary camp's attacks and general disenfranchisement of voters in states that they lose, but can this really stand in our way?
This will not stand. WE will stand. This movement, a beautiful collaboration of people of different ethnicity, age, and gender, has decided that enough is enough in America. Will we let any form of drudge wear us down? no. These victories tonight show us that, and together, we can change how this country operates. I'm ready, are you?
This is my first diary; I have long been a fan of the site. I was pointed to it by a friend in the crucial 2006 election. I was the organizer for the Sherrod Brown campaign on campus here at the University of Akron. Both in the campaign and on this site, it was inspiring to see those of a mind like my own. We worked hard, and it paid off, we elected a great, true progressive to the U.S. Senate.
Ever since then, I have been more and more determined to play my part to help out in society. Recently I have decided to teach history and language arts at the Middle level, because I feel that guidance is greatly needed at these levels. Too long has race mattered. Too long has gender divided us.
For too long, understanding of a basic and crucial truth has been distorted to us. By our politicians, by our teachers, and sometimes, even by ourselves. This truth is that WE all all in this together. Nothing separates or divides us from one another; we do that ourselves. We construct realities that are not true, that simply perpetuate this feelings to the detriment of all. It is beyond time that WE shift the thinking of our society to a more progressive, all-inclusive ideology. Can WE? Yes, WE can!
Racism, discrimination, and violence in general has always confounded me. Why must we judge and hate because of something so simple as the hue of our skin? Society's leaders have not cared so much, even going so far as to use these divisions to keep us down, and keep them on top. A strong urge exists in us, however. A whisper even, constantly telling us how wrong this is, how wrong it feels, and how much we want to fix it. Well my friends, of every nationality, creed, and gender, the time to fix that is now. So let us join together and be part of something truly wonderful, because together, yes WE will.
